There were 12,502 housing units at an average density of 20 per square mile (8/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.32% White, 0.38% Black, 0.46% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Nearly 1.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
